Philanthropy and Welfare

ICL regards it as a great privilege and a moral obligation to participate in supporting the communities in which it works. For many years ICL has contributed financially and socially to a wide range of welfare projects, from daycare centers for children to various health and welfare programs. ICL donates resources, including funds, equipment, personnel and volunteers to needy and disadvantaged populations. \

Daycare Centers for Education and Welfare and “Warm Homes” for Youth

ICL sponsors 25 daycare centers for primary school-aged at-risk children, as well as “warm homes” for high school-aged girls, contributing both educational and enrichment activities.

ICL’s daycare centers provide development and nurturing activities for hundreds of at-risk children in southern Israel communities during after-school hours. The children enjoy extracurricular activities, funded by ICL, as well as educational and moral content, through an active and close relationship that they develop with ICL’s current and retired employees, who volunteer at the centers. The employees serve as counselors, friends, and role models, and maintain close and ongoing contact with the children. They organize enrichment programs, hikes, and other leisure activities, devoting their free time to this important project.

ICL operates an educational program at the daycare centers and “warm homes”, designed to empower children and improve their self-image.

Activities are also offered to high school female students through the “warm homes” program – a therapeutic framework designed for youth aged 13 to 18, and particularly for young girls at risk and in distress. The “warm homes” provides a social framework during the afternoon hours, designed to achieve social, educational and therapeutic objectives. ICL funds various activities and the acquisition of required equipment, and its volunteers organize enrichment projects, parties, and hikes, as well as special events.

In 2020, the centers operated until March 15, due to COVID-19 related restrictions.

Yated Daycare Center for Children with Down’s Syndrome

About 40 children and youth attend the center located in the Hapoel Beer Sheva building. ICL funds activities at the center and special events that are adapted to the participants’ needs and are intended to promote and develop their abilities and skills. In addition, ICL volunteers participate in a variety of activities, birthday celebrations and special events for the Jewish Holidays.

In 2020, the Yated Daycare Center was only partly operational, but ICL volunteers continued their work at the Center in compliance with COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions.

‘Tzaad Kadima’- A Step Forward

‘Tzaad Kadima’ (Hebrew for a step forward) is a non-profit organization that strives to operate programs for education and rehabilitation of children and adults suffering from CP (Cerebral palsy), motor disabilities and development challenges throughout Israel. ICL supports the ongoing activities of Tzaad Kadima.

‘Maslan’ – Assistance Center for Victims of Sexual Abuse in the Negev

The Assistance Center for Victims of Sexual Abuse and Violence in the Negev acts to provide assistance, companionship and serve as a source of practical and emotional support for victims and their families. Alongside its assistance to victims, this non-profit organization also works to promote social change by conducting educational, preventative and informative activities throughout the Negev. ICL is the main supporter of the Center’s activities, contributing hundreds of thousands of shekels in support of the Center every year. In addition, ICL volunteers serve on the non-profit organization’s board of directors and in the emergency call center, in addition to providing personal assistance to victims. ICL volunteers active in Maslan continued their volunteer activities even during the COVID-19 crisis, mostly as call center responders, with calls taken by them at home, as COVID-related lockdowns saw an increased need for responders in this field.

Food Parcels for the Holidays

ICL continues a long tradition of providing food parcels twice a year: on Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) and Passover, to needy families, new immigrants and the deprived elderly throughout communities in the Negev where many of its employees work. This tradition is carried out in cooperation with welfare departments at municipal authorities in Southern Israel.

During 2020, in addition to a monetary donation to the Latet nonprofit organization, ICL volunteers assisted in the packaging and delivery of food parcels. The first COVID-19 lockdown during Passover (in April 2020) created a need for additional help, and ICL employees raised to the task. The same occurred during the Jewish New Year holiday season (in September 2020).

Friends and Volunteers of the Soroka Medical Center

The Soroka Medical Center is the largest medical center in the South, serving all residents of the Negev. ICL contributes a significant annual donation to the ‘Friends of the Soroka Medical Center’ at it’s annual fundraising event. In addition, as part of the Lihiyot Me’uravim (Hebrew – be involved) program, ICL employees volunteer at the medical center, as well as funds the employment of employees’ children before their recruitment into the IDF. ICL also assists other hospitals in Israel, including the Sheba Medical Center – Tel Hashomer, in a variety of projects.

Simcha Layeled (Children’s Joy)

Simcha Layeled is a nonprofit organization aiding ill children to reintegrate in the community, focusing on personal accompaniment of the children throughout the hospitalization and rehabilitation process, while creating a social environment for children. The organization provides the ill children with social and mental tools to realize their potential. The organization’s various activities respond to a broad range of needs of these children and their families. In 2020, ICL made a monetary donation to the organization, and ICL employees began volunteering in the organization. However, COVID-19 related restrictions halted this process, to be be resumed in 2021.
