ICL Dead Sea | Israel

ICL conducts mining operations at the Dead Sea, located in the lowest area of dry land in the world and one of the saltiest bodies of water on Earth. ICL Dead Sea extracts minerals from the Dead Sea including potash, bromine, sodium chloride (salt), magnesia, magnesium chloride and metal magnesium. These minerals are the basis for multiple products, from fertilizers that support food security to products that are used in the electronics and health industries. Products from the Dead Sea are transported to customers around the world. \

The extraction of minerals begins with an evaporation process in the southern shallow basin of the Dead Sea, which is facilitated by the hot, dry climate of the region. ICL Dead Sea’s extraction and production operation spans across 150 km² in the southern basin of the Dead Sea. For more information see ICL’s 2022 Annual Report pp.152-158.

Year of Sustainability

In ICL Dead Sea, Sustainability is a core value practiced daily. When the Year of Sustainability was declared, we broadened our perspective to include additional impact beyond the daily management of our existing environmental impact. The launch of the annual initiative included an on-site sustainability conference, dedicated newsletters, and multiple activities that added to the knowledge and expertise of our managers and employees alike. We established five teams with specific focus areas: Circular economy, GHG emissions reduction and energy efficiency, waste reduction and green procurement, biodiversity, and HR. In addition, we initiated a significant water-saving project.

Potash - A Natural Fertilizer

ICL Dead Sea produces potash fertilizers from Dead Sea minerals. Some of ICL Dead Sea’s potash is a pure natural product with no chemical additives. Minerals extracted from the Dead Sea are dried and processed for shipment. These natural minerals are used as fertilizer in agriculture which, in turn, enhance global food security.

The current concession granted to ICL Dead Sea is until March 31, 2030, and grants ICL priority to receive a new concession following its expiration, should the Israeli government wish to offer a new concession.
