Our People
ICL’s social engagement strategy is built on collaboration, meaningful partnerships and shared value creation. We establish and shape networks of social good within the communities in which we operate. We do this by investing in entrepreneurs, innovating, and by utilizing our resources and expertise to build sustainable lasting partnerships which will become a driving force for social good.
Our strategy is focused on four main pillars:
ICL’s primary approach to its sustainable social engagement policy is to make an impact by investing in education. This enables a sustainable social change along with economic growth. Education is the main pillar of STEM education programs (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) that we established to promote academic excellence, innovation and leadership among target populations across all education levels, institutions and age groups.
Together with local partners, we develop programs designed to support and advance specific populations. These programs promote scientific curiosity and scientific education. They advance excellence by supporting outstanding students, make professional training accessible and train and support innovative thinking and leadership.
ICL seeks to maintain a positive impact on local communities where we operate by supporting these communities’ economic development, social innovation and local entrepreneurship.
This is accomplished by sharing knowledge and resources to empower members of our communities. Our mission is to develop long-term sustainable relationships and collaboration with our communities, based on the creation of shared values and trust.
As part of our efforts to encourage innovation and establish collaborations with local social entrepreneurs, we support social entrepreneurs of all kinds to launch their initiatives by sponsoring, guiding and training them. Our partners provide unique perspectives and have the ability to address various challenges and needs within our communities. We encourage entrepreneurs from different communities to share ideas, cooperate and expand successful projects to additional communities, thereby creating a network of communities. We focus on local needs including empowerment, economic growth, equality, inclusion, and sustainability.
ICL strives to promote food security within the communities in which we operate. We do this by utilizing our resources, products and expertise.
We are dedicated to improving food security through a broad array of AgTech solutions, fertilizers, alternative proteins and other innovative products that help to increase and improve agricultural yields and quality, maintain longer shelf life, and reduce food waste.
ICL has partnered with farmers in India, Kenya, Tanzania, as well as other developing countries through agricultural tutoring and assistance in developing methods to engage in sustainable agriculture, including plant nutrition and optimal fertilization. Farmers are empowered to use soil more effectively, increase yields, and reduce their environmental footprint.
To provide food security within our communities, we support local farmers and food banks, expand the use of community gardens and urban agriculture and organize food donations.

Our employees foster their connection with local communities by contributing their time and efforts mentoring youth and students, providing financial and business mentoring for small businesses and financial mentoring for families. Employees are also involved in after school activities with children, supporting the elderly, volunteering at food banks and health institutions, and more. We aim to create meaningful impact within the communities in which we live. ICL supports volunteering by its employees with a designated app – “WeCare”.
ICL donated approximately $14.5 million in 2022.
During 2022, ICL’s employees contributed over 60,000 hours of volunteer work. Around 24,500 hours were during working hours and 35,500 hours occurred after working hours, with ICL encouraging, organizing and logistically facilitating the efforts.
In 2022, ICL published a new volunteering support policy. The policy includes ICL’s commitment and methods of supporting employees who volunteer, including a matching donation of $5 for every hour volunteered by ICL’s employees in projects that meet certain criteria.
As part of ICL’s ESG Week, ICL encourages its employees to volunteer in numerous community initiatives. During 2022, we witnessed impressive volunteering by over 4,000 volunteers from 18 countries and 59 different ICL sites who invested over 16,750 hours in 210 different community service opportunities. These included park and beach clean-ups, supporting the elderly and people with disabilities, renovating and refurbishing community parks and buildings, assisting at animal shelters, helping at local food banks, and more.
This annual event was successful both in terms of participation and in the dramatic increase in volunteerism that occurred during the months that followed creating a positive cultural shift throughout our organization.
